When the creator of the interactive two-man musical,“An Elf’s Journey” Danielle Vernengo contacted me to conduct interviews after her show at the Cabrillo Playhouse in San Clemente, I was thrilled. Not only was this a premiere of a new play, but it was a holiday children’s show and I knew the excitement would be overflowing. “An Elf’s Journey”, which is targeted to kids between the ages of 2-12 years old, is a must see for the entire family. The musical tells the story of when Selfie the Elf leaves the North Pole for the first time. On his excursion he meets some very insightful characters including a Jewish boy, an alley cat and a wise old dog. These new friends teach him the true meaning of the holidays. To find out exactly what Selfie the Elf discovers on his journey, you will have to see the show, but in the meantime, you can learn some of the lessons from the kids in the interviews below.
As you can see, the youngsters had a good time and learned a lot. After speaking to the audience, I had the opportunity to chat with Danielle Vernengo. She not only starred in, wrote, produced and directed the show, but also co-wrote the music with the talented songwriters Bev and Cliff Nelson. Is there nothing this gal can’t do? The songs were honestly my favorite part! Click on the interview below to learn what it’s like to write music in a team of three and where this show may be headed next.
Special thanks to videographer Jamie Hobert for his amazing camera work!
